Just got back from our first session in dog obedience training. Toby learned "on" & "off" hand signals and to lay down. He was not very popular amongst some of the dogs, one being a Great Dane. That dog was huge and Toby was going after him like a steak! There is another large dog (don't know the breed) that Toby barked at but mostly he went after the Dane. (Obviously Toby has delusions of grandeur.) Anyway, we're hoping to accomplish a few things; that Toby becomes more social with other dogs and people. We're also hopeful that he will stop biting. The trainer said he is a smart dog that likes to have his way so guess who's really getting trained!?!?
This should have been done years ago but better late than never. Also, we have a vicious dog ordinance and if Toby would bite anyone bad enough for them to need stitches, he'd have to be put down. Don't think I could handle that so we will try the training and see how it goes. Now we'll have homework every night.. : (
Not much else to report. Things are usually quiet around our house with both girls off living their own lives. This is why Toby gets all our attention -- poor dog!

Why did you wait so long ?
ReplyDeleteWe didn't know what we were doing. Besides, growing up on a farm you didn't take your pets to obedience school!!! Live and learn I guess....
